Big Lake Cemetery, east of Homestead. Ushers will be Dean and Neal French, Don Jensen, and Greg
Niederhauser. June died Saturday afternoon, February 2 at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home in Plentywood;
she was 79.
June was born June 4, 1928 in Plentywood, the daughter of Ole and Anne (Rasmussen) Jensen. The family
lived in Reserve, Montana and in Grenora, North Dakota before they moved to Froid, Montana when June was in
the second grade. She was baptized and confirmed at the Froid Lutheran Church, and graduated from Froid
High School in 1946. She took teacher’s training at Eastern Montana College in Billings and at Moorhead State
College in Moorhead, Minnesota, then taught at the Hammond school east of Froid for a year, and in Froid for
two years.
She married Howard Skillingberg in Froid September 1, 1948; they made their home in Froid for a year, then
moved to the farm just east of Homestead. For 13 years June continued her career in education as a substitute
teacher, teacher’s aid, and remedial reading teacher at Medicine Lake. She was a 4-H leader, a Sunday School
teacher, Luther League adviser, and an officer in the Homestead Lutheran Church and the conference of the
ALCW. June was immensely proud of her Danish heritage.
She loved holidays, and never failed to lovingly decorate their home for every special event throughout the year. She was a proud mother and
grandmother who followed her family’s activities in every detail. A lifetime member of the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, she also served on
the election board, and took voting and her citizenship very seriously. A superb cook and baker, she loved to enjoy the fellowship of food and fun –
her infectious smile and sense of humor would light up the room, no matter what! She painted in oils and made quilts for all her family: her health
failed before she was able to finish the ones for her great-grandchildren, but she had them started and ready for others to finish for her! Her
declining health forced her and Howard to move to LaCasa in Plentywood in January, 2007;and in August she entered the nursing home.
June is survived by her husband, Howard, now of Medicine Lake, and four children and their families: Cynthia and her husband David Thomas
live in Reno, Nevada; Jason Skillingberg and his wife Eileen, live in Longmont, Colorado; Michael Skillingberg lives in Richmond, Virginia; and
David Skillingberg and his wife Dixie live in Homestead. She is also survived by a half-brother, Robert Jensen and his wife Lyla, of Indio,
California; and a half-sister, Mary Dige and her husband Brian, who live in Arizona; and by six grandchildren: Christopher Baumann, Brian
Baumann and his wife Alex; Jennifer Zadel and her husband Chris, Kelly Nolan and her husband Brad; and Mark and Eric Skillingberg. She also
has four great-grandchildren, Zeke and Cloe Baumann and Devon and Rylan Zadel. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two
brothers, Virel and Bobby Jensen, a sister, Donna Piacenza, and a grandson, Nicolas Skillingberg.
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood has charge of arrangements.
