Elizabeth Evenson Funeral services for Elizabeth Evenson will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 4. Pastor Ron Martin~Dent will officiate at the service at Plentywood Lutheran Church; interment will be in Plentywood Memorial Cemetery. Elizabeth, 88, died at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood Monday evening, September 29. Elizabeth, the daughter of Fred and Selma (Ike) Lossing, was born in Plentywood January 11, 1920. She grew up on the family farm, in the Wanso community in southwestern Sheridan County. She graduated from Redstone High School, and started working as a waitress at Deck’s café in Plentywood where she met Leland Evenson. They were married June 30, 1939 at the Plentywood Lutheran Church parsonage; they have lived in Plentywood since. Elizabeth saw herself as an everyday working housewife and mom, devoted to her husband, her children, and her home, and had a deep faith in her Lord. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, where she was a lifelong member. She worked as a waitress, helped Leland in operation of their Texaco service station and Sheridan Ready-Mix businesses, and was head cook in the Plentywood school lunch program for many years. In her kitchen –whether at home or at school – no one left the table hungry, but wasting food was not tolerated, either!
Elizabeth would do anything for her family or anyone else, but was never comfortable accepting help from others. Her life was an example of love; she made dozens of comfort quilts with love for everyone (even her great-grandson’s teddy bear had one of Elizabeth’s quilts!) Many years ago she and a few other ALCW members started the long-standing Quilting activity of Plentywood Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, especially 5-Crowns ... and sometimes “helped” Fred win (maybe “helped” a little too much?) Elizabeth had a sly sense of humor and loved instigating practical jokes within her family – just ask Dwayne about his dandelions! She loved being in her garden with her flowers and raising vegetables; but as her health declined she was frustrated that she couldn’t do more.
Elizabeth is survived by five children: three sons, LeRoy “Fred”, of Plentywood; Dwayne, and his friend Deborah Bruton, of Plentywood and Checotah, Oklahoma; and Dean and his wife Cheryl, of Gladstone, North Dakota; two daughters, Audrey Wang and her husband Raymond, of Plentywood; and Lynette Byrd and her husband Geoffery, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and by 6 grandchildren, Shawndell McCall, of Knightsen, California; Tracy (Brent) Blackmore, Ceylon, Saskatchewan; Travis (Tressa) Wang, Plentywood; Troy (Angela) Rivington, Lafayette, Colorado; Arlinda (Brad) Holthus, and Jamie Evenson, both of Dickinson, North Dakota; 3 step-grandchildren, Gina (Mike) Cleveland, and Johnny Dysart, both of Billings; and Gyro Byrd, of New Jersey; 9 great-grandchildren, numerous step-great- grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Bernice Evenson; her husband, Leland Evenson; a son, Warner, whose wife, Karen, lives in Billings; and a daughter, Geraldine, whose husband, Lowell, lives in Plentywood; and by a brother, James Lossing, whose wife, Rose, lives at Redstone. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford and Marion Lossing, and Verner Follose, and Verner’s wife, Hazel.
