Betty Schmidt A funeral service for Betty Schmidt will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Plentywood Lutheran Church. Pastor Ron Martin-Dent will officiate, Robin and Wayne Ordahl will serve as musicians; ushers will be Sandi Jacobson and Wes Jensen. Serving as pallbearers will be: Carl and Tony Schmidt, Daniel and Justin Horning, Chris Kelm and Connor Domonoske. Burial will be at Plentywood Memorial Cemetery and Plentywood WELCA will serve a luncheon at the church following interment. Betty, 76, died on Wednesday, June 17th at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood. She was born August 22, 1932 in Plentywood, a daughter of Peter and Gladys (Aagaard) Jensen. Betty was raised 17 miles south of Plentywood, attending the Voight and Rose Valley Country Schools. Her family moved to Plentywood so she could attend high school and she graduated in 1951. She went to Great Falls College of Education and returned to work at the Sheridan County Court House until March of 1956.
Betty married Norman Schmidt on December 9, 1955 and later worked at the Court House until September of 1957. In 1960 Betty and Norman moved to the Outlook area where they farmed until 1991 when they moved their family home to Plentywood, where they retired. Norman died in 1999 and Betty continued to live in her home until the fall of 2007, when she moved to the Montana Pioneer Manor.
Betty was very involved with Outlook, Raymond and Plentywood community activities. She was a collector of family memorabilia, loved to shop and her Danish heritage came through in many family discussions.
Betty is survived by her children: Vicky (Brock) Hjelm; Mark (Lydia Johnson); Wayde (Ann), all of Plentywood; Corey (Sheila) of Billings and Deann (Paul) Horning of Montana City. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Ralph (Judy) Jensen of Plentywood; a sister-in-law Nancy (Cliff) Oliphant of Peoria, Arizona, brother-in-law Ralph (Joyce) Schmidt, sister-in-law Christina Schmidt, both of Plentywood, a brother-in-law Felix Wilhelmi of Bertha, Minnesota.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Peter and Gladys Jensen, her husband Norman and brother Melvin Jensen.
