John died Tuesday night, April 14 at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home; he was 78. John C. Milani was born June 23, 1930 in Orange, New Jersey, one of 13 children of Charles and Angelina (Pisanello) Milani. When he was 13, he went to work to help support his family. A combat veteran of the Korean conflict, John entered the U. S. Army in January, 1951. He married Eleanor Walsh August 16, 1951 in Orange; and was shipped out to Korea soon after. His first child was born while he was overseas; after his discharge in June, 1952 he returned to New Jersey. John was a victim of combat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and struggled with it’s effects. His family recognized that underneath it all was a struggling, caring man, who loved his family – and his grandchildren accepted him completely and loved him just as he was.
John worked as a mechanic, specializing in rebuilding generators and alternators. He had his own shop, working in New Jersey and later in Arizona. John has lived in Montana for the last several years. He had an apartment in Plentywood, but as his health failed, he moved briefly to the Montana Pioneer Manor, and then to Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home.
Although divorced, John is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of Manheim, Pennsylvania and by 9 children: John Milani and his wife Chris, of Dallas Texas, Joseph Milani, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey; Maryann Milani, and her husband Lynn Jones, of Mesa, Arizona; Charles Milani, of Brick, New Jersey; Angel Green and her husband Mike, of Plentywood.; Carol Bruno and her husband Michael, of Lititz, Pennsylvania; Susan Hackmann and her husband Vernon, of Plentywood; Toni Milani, of Point Pleasant; and Paul Milani, who lives in Arizona.
