Betty Teigen Funeral services for Betty Teigen will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, February 8. United Methodist Church Pastor Susan Twidwell will officiate at the service at the Plentywood Lutheran Church building; interment will be in Antelope Creek Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Bayard Brekke, Paul Holdeman, Larry & Rhonda Frederick, and Gary & Marcia Nelson; ushers will be Don & Judy Benson and Maynard & Phyllis Johnson. Betty was dead on arrival at Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood Tuesday evening, February 2. She was 68. Born June 17, 1941 at Plentywood, Betty was the daughter of Julian and Inga (Brekke) Teigen. She grew up on the family farm east of Antelope and attended schools near the farm and in Antelope and graduated from Antelope High School in 1959. Beginning in February, 1960, following business college training in Minneapolis, she worked in the Pentagon, as a civilian clerk for the U.S. Navy. She returned to Montana the summer of 1965, and went to work in the Sheridan County Courthouse for Treasurer Leo Donaldson. Over the years until her retirement December 31, 1996, she was elected several times as Treasurer, alternating with others during the time that law required that the treasurer could not serve successive terms.
A lifelong Democrat, Betty was active in party matters locally. Betty was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and served as treasurer for both. She participated in the Bethany Bible Study group and for over 35 years in a community Ecumenical Bible Study group, meeting Wednesday mornings at Randy's Restaurant in Plentywood. After her "retirement" Betty worked for some time at the Montana Pioneer Manor, first as a receptionist, and later helping with decorating and leading various programs and entertainment there.
She retired again, but still brought her beloved dogs to the Manor weekly for visits and some lovin' with the residents! Betty never married, and her dogs and large, ever-changing assortment of cats became her family. She loved Stephen King movies, followed NASCAR and the various C.S.I. programs on TV, belonged to the Golden Years Club, was a dedicated member of the Sherwood Garden Club and loved raising vegetables, especially tomatoes; and for a number of years spent several weeks during the winter in Tombstone, Arizona. A highlight of her year was participating in county fair activities, usually driving a historic tractor in the parade, and judging events.
Betty is survived by her two beloved dogs, Shi Tzu's Ginger and Toby; her brother, Bob Teigen and his wife Linda, of Plentywood and the Antelope farm; and their daughter Anna Marie Kvanvig and her husband Travis, of Fargo, North Dakota and numerous cousins: Curtis, Duane, and Marvin & Judy Hanna; Renae Hall, Kenneth & Mavis Spear, Sara and Darrell Helmers, and by the Brekke families. She was very close to her neighbors Larry and Rhonda Frederick; and their children, Jessica and Sara and their families were as close as nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorials might be directed to the Golden Years Club, or another charity of choice.
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood has charge of arrangements.
