Eugene Smith

    Memorial services for Eugene R. Smith will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, June 24. Pastor Johnette
    Grefe will officiate at the service at Medicine Lake Lutheran Church; private interment of cremated
    remains will be held later. Gene died early Saturday morning, January 30, 2010 at Sheridan
    Memorial Nursing Home; he was 81.

    Born at Froid June 3, 1928, Gene was the first child of M.P. "Cap" and Maggie  (Allen) Smith. A 1947
    graduate of Medicine Lake High School, Gene was raised on the Smith Ranch west of Reserve
    where he has lived all his life, raising Arabian horses and Hereford and Charolais-cross cattle. He
    married Barbara Smith Dyer February 27, 1969. Gene was active as a 4-H leader and in the
    Medicine Lake Alumni Association.

    Gene is survived by his wife, Barbara, on the ranch west of Reserve; by two step-daughters, Virginia
    Richardson, of Wolf Point; and Francine Ward and her husband Jason, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
    He is also survived by grandchildren Robert Sheridan Richardson, Kirstie Gilbertson and her
    husband, Brooke; Melissa Jean and Chase  Evanson and Tess and Jordan Bjorgen, and by great-
    grandchildren  Breyson and Isla Gilbertson.

He is also survived by sisters Shirley Hovland and her husband Milt, of Plentywood; Jessie Fredrickson, of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and
Coralie Ann Schlenker, and her husband, Dave, of Sidney; as well as by a brother, Guy Smith and his wife Jeanette,  of Plentywood, and
by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.P. "Cap" and Maggie Smith, by a brother, Earl,  and a sister,
Thressa, both in infancy; by a niece, Melanee Hovland, and by a nephew, Shawn Schlenker.

Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood has charge of arrangements.
