Monica Minette (Nielsen) Olson

Monica was born on August 3, 1965 in Plentywood, Montana to Marilyn Nielsen and Morris
Nielsen, Jr.   She spent a lot of her childhood on her grandparents’ farm.  She attended
school in Plentywood prior to transferring to Medicine Lake, where she graduated in 1984.
She attended beauty school in Billings after which she worked for the United States Postal
Service for 24 plus years; first as a clerk in Billings and then as a letter carrier in
Plentywood.  She married Chad Olson in 1992 who had two daughters Erin and Alexa and
then had her two daughters, Ashley Marie (1994) and Taylor Mae (1996).  Her girls were her
life and brought her great joy.  If her girls were happy, everything was right in the world.

Monica was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Morris and Elinor Nielsen and
maternal grandparents Elvin and Hazel Hopper.  She is survived by her two daughters, two
stepdaughters, her mother Marilyn Nielsen and her father Morris Nielsen, Jr. and his wife,
Judy; her sisters Melinda, Michelle (twin) and Nikki Jo, her brother Maury, her cousins,
uncles and aunts, her postal family and too many friends to count, as well as her three cats,
    Patches, Marie and Macy.

Monica had many hobbies and many friends.  She was the type of person who would give you the shirt off her back and ask if you
needed anything else.  She had a heart of gold and loved to laugh and be with other people.  She had a love of all animals and was
actively involved in spay clinics and with the Humane Society of the United States.  It broke her heart to see an animal treated inhumanely
and she often felt compelled to help them in any way possible, no matter what the costs to her personally.

Monica’s passion for animals could only be surpassed by her dedication to volunteering.  From serving concessions at ball games, to
working Bump and Run events, to helping at church functions, she never said “no.”

Every day she found someone or something she could help with.   A fierce defender of friends and family, she was loyal, kind, thoughtful,
generous and no favor asked of her went undone.

Monica, 44, died in Plentywood on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in Plentywood.  Her services will be held in Plentywood on Monday,
February 1st at Plentywood Lutheran Church at 10:00 A.M. and she will be laid to rest in the Plentywood Memorial Cemetery.  A Memorial
Service will be held in Billings, Montana on Saturday, February 6th at 1:00 P.M. at the Dahl Funeral Home, 10 Yellowstone Avenue.

An account for Monica’s daughters has been set up at Billings Federal Credit Union, POB 1779, Billings, Montana 59103, for those
wishing to contribute.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society of the United States, the ASPCA, or your local animal shelter.
